Hobbies

Quilting: I made my first quilt when I was twelve. My friends mother taught me to sew and tie quilts. I've been making quilts ever since, though my technic has advanced, and I now quilt them as opposed to tying them. I also sell designer fabrics from my store on Etsy, Beehive Quilt Company, to help keep me in beautiful fabrics to use in my creative hobby.

Gardening: I enjoy creating something from nothing, and gardening fits that nicely. Planting a seed and nurturing it into a mature, fruit bearing plant, and then using its bounty for nourishment is rewarding in a way that doesn't compare to much else. I hope to one day have a tomato garden large and healthy enough that I can supply myself with enough produce to preserve for the next year's use.

Fishing: My dad taught me to fish when I was young, and I've loved it ever since. Fly fishing was a form I learned as an adult and has become my favorite way to fish. It is truly an art form, one that I hope to master at some point in my life.

Reading: The first books I read was the Flowers in the Attic series by V.C. Andrews in middle school. I was hooked ever since. I typically read thriller fiction, but will occasionally stray to the biographies and self-improvement books if the subject is interesting enough. One of my favorite books will always be Welcome to the Monkey House by Kurt Vonnegut because I believe it showcases his darkly humorous satire best.

Fun Facts: My husband and I met when we were in our early twenties, but being citizens of different countries, it was difficult to date seriously, thus we lost contact after a few years. Thanks to the advances in social media we reconnected about seven years later and were able to make a relationship work. We tackled the daunting process that is U.S. immigration and were married at an Indian restaurant in San Francisco in 2010. Weird Al Yankovic happened to dine there at the time of our reception and was kind enough to pose for a picture with us to commemorate the fun. I was also lucky enough to meet Lou Holz at a leadership conference I once attended for my business organization. He is truly an inspirational person and his words will forever guide me in the way of true leadership.
